A band of gold running down the 30 levels of a new South Yarra apartment block will make it easy to identify in the rapidly developing residential area of Forrest Hill.

Central South Yarra’s 355 apartments will sit on Yarra Street, opposite the train lines and between Toorak Road and the river. Designed by Rothe Lowman, the building would be a relatively simple off-white affair but for the flowing gold that angles down the building.

There will be 170 one-bedroom apartments and 185 two-bedrooms, of which 82 have two bathrooms.

One-bedrooms range from 45 square meters to 48 square meters and two-bedrooms from 61 square meters. A penthouse of 216 square meters, with a terrace of 47.5 square meters, is also available.

For lower-level apartments, balconies vary between 4.5 square meters and 117 square meters.

In building as large as Central South Yarra, there is a huge range of sizes, levels and views available – and here there are views of the city, bay and Dandenong Ranges and prices from $348,000 for one-bedroom apartment up to the penthouse beyond $2.75 million.

Two-bedroom apartments with one bathroom begin at $584,000, and those with two bathrooms from $790,000.

The transport-rich positions has meant 226 car spaces are allocated to the block, with one to each two-bedroom apartment and two to those with two bathrooms. Buyers of one-bedrooms in levels 17 to 38 can buy an apartment that includes parking from $430,000.

Interiors have a light or dark colour scheme and include Miele appliances, stone benchtops, mirrored splashbacks and reverse cycle airconditioning. The lighter scheme has an almost Scandinavian style, featuring areas of light timber set against off-white cabinets and benchtops.

All apartments include open plan kitchen, living and dining areas that connect to the balcony. Buyers can also upgrade to timber floors in living areas and buyers of upper-level two-bedroom apartments have upgrade option of a gas fireplace.

Beyond their front door, residents will also have access to what is described by the developer as a “five-star resort-style residents’ rooftop retreat” on level 30. This includes indoor heated pool and gym, outdoor sun terrace, indoor lounge with a fireplace, and a dining room with a 10-seater table.

A little more than one-third of apartments have sold and construction is expected to start mid-2013. A display suite is open on site 1-4pm Saturday to Thursday.
