Auckland’s saving Grace – How one project is restoring faith in the local market

Whilst many new developments are struggling to get off the ground, one project is forging ahead with its construction and bringing with it, forward momentum back to Auckland’s multi-residential market.

Grace Victoria Quarter, the 10-level apartment building located on the gateway site cornering Sale and Cook streets, will complete its final layer this week. The topping out is a milestone for both the project and the community, with its success helping to rebuild confidence in the local market. Continued sales and construction progress have defined Grace’s rise, with many now coming to see the value of such design conviction and bold direction.

This is in large part a credit to the project’s makers: leading Auckland-based developer Reside, award-winning Melbourne-based developer Little Projects and renowned international design practice Cox Architecture. Covering unchartered territory, the trio are succeeding in their mission to bring new architectural sophistication to Auckland’s skyline. “We were ambitious; we knew the market was craving an elevated residential experience and so set out to create a project the likes of which Auckland had never seen,” said Little Projects Director, Paris Lechte.

“The result is a project that combines homes of scale with amenities of distinction, where living extends beyond the front door of each apartment and is played out against the backdrop of inner-city Auckland and the harbour,” said Lechte. “Standing atop the final storey at Grace, taking in its 360-degree views and looking upon our soon-tobe complete sky lounge and landscaped sky terrace, you get the sense this vision has now become a reality.”

It won’t be long until residents can experience this for themselves with Grace’s completion on track for mid-2019. “With settlement approaching and only seven apartments still available, Grace has proven just how insatiable the local appetite is for high-quality residential design and development,” said Reside Managing Director, Mark Weipers. “This project is the instigator of change Auckland needed – since its launch in late 2015 we have seen buyer perceptions shift, with sentiment for the multi-residential market improving as people come to realise all that apartment living can be,” said Weipers.

It is hoped the flow on effect of this will see an upswing in the wider market and inspire others to embrace a calibre of development and design reflective of Auckland’s potential and modern resident.
